The season for Parker was marked by ups and downs. He started strong by hitting 10 homeruns at the tournament in Germany but in Ljubljana and Switzerland he only managed to hit two. Therfore, after three tournaments the race for the homerun champion title was still on, especially, after Chadon Bowman took the lead with 17 homeruns by hitting 10 in Switzerland. But Rhino struck back in Austria. He crushed the ball 13 times over the fence to send a message to his contenders. This message was so strong that he won the ESSL homerun champion title in 2015.

After two ESSL season Parker leads the all time homerun ranking with 40 homeruns

Bombers win ESSL Supercup 2015 https://www.softballeurope.com/2015/09/22/bombers-win-essl-supercup-2015/ Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:23:02 +0000 http://www.softballeurope.com/?p=2508 With a 16:6 win over the Los Coyotes in the final game the Bombers crowned themselves as the first ESSL Supercup champion in Linz, Austria.

The Bombers won every game and they showed that they were the team to beat. But not every game was a clear decision. The semi-final game against the Los Coyotes (Austria) was a tough one. Until the bottom of the 5th inning the Los Coyotes were ahead 11:8. The Bombers took their last chance and scored some more runs. Finally, Dave Donnely hit the winning RBI and Ray Ford scored the run to win the game 12:11 for the Bombers. After the Los Coyotes won against the Guzzlers Europe (7:5) both teams faced each other in the finals again. After two innings it was another close race (8:6) between those two teams. Realizing the previous game in the semi-finals the Bombers “shifted into a higher gear” and scored several runs to end the game 16:6 in the fifth inning.

Boxscore Final Game
Bombers vs. Los Coyotes 16:6

The Guzzlers had some ups and downs at this tournament but at the key games they were not able to get into a good hitting rhythm. Unfortunately, the two close loses in the double elimination against the Los Coyotes (7:9 & 5:7) kicked them out of the race for the Supercup title 2015.

The Dream Team from Slovenia had a very good tournament and played their role as an underdog very well. But, the game (7:13) against the Guzzlers in the DE stopped them from reaching a big surprise. This very young team has great potential and everybody has to watch out for the next season. A good example of their talent is that two players, Patric Puntar and Gaspar Narobe, are eligible to sign a Minor League baseball contract with a MLB club for the 2016/17 season.

For all teams the Chocolate City Eagles from the Nertherlands, representing Aruba, were a big unknown factor. The team that received a wild card spot had some troubles at the beginning because the players needed some time to adapt their game to this level of play. But as soon as they had their first double elimination game they seemd to be ready. With the win against the Los Titanes (6:5) they were in the race to reach the 5th place and more in their first international tournament. However, after losing against the Guzzler (6:20) and the game for the 5th ranking spot against PGS (5:16) they finished on the 6th place. For this new team it was a tournament with a learning curve, especially, when you play 7 games in two days.

PGS (Austria) were able to step up at this tournament by achieving the 5th place. They had a chance to climb up the ranking but this opportunity was stopped by the Dream Team (10:14). The Toros (Switzerland) and the Titanes (Austria) didn’t have their best players on the field. Thus, the were not able to show their full strength. At the end the Toros ranked 7th and the Titanes 8th.

Not only teams win titles but also players. For this tournament Stan Cruz from the Guzzlers won the batting title (AVG .778) and Drew Chesser from the Bombers the pitching title.

ESSL Supercup Stats

The ESSL Jobworx Supercup is history. We saw great games, emotions and teams that had a lot fun. We were also honored by the visit of the mayor of Linz, Klaus Luger, who threw the first pitch before the final game started. Now the tournament is over and history is in the books with the first Supercup title for the Bad News Bombers.

The Los Coyotes who beat the Guzzlers in the semi-final game 9:4 forced the Bombers to another tournament championship game after winning the first game 25:15. The second game was a close decision. After four innings the Bombers had a 13:9 lead but the Coyotes answered with 8 runs in the 5th & 6th inning and holding the Bombers by 5 runs. In the last inning the score was 18:17 for the Bombers with 3 outs away to win the tournament. With great defense the Bombers managed to get the three outs and won the ESSL Austria tournament.

The race for the third place in the ESSL
With the second place in the ESSL Austria tournament the Los Coyotes passed the Dream Team in the league by taking the third position again. But it ‘s still a close race between those two teams to win the bronze medal in the ESSL league. Both teams are only two points apart from each other.

PGS handled it to get out of the slump by finishing the tournament at the 5th place in front of the Los Titanes. Because the Bulldogs only reached the 7th place we will see another close race. But in that case for the 5th place in the ESSL league. Both teams are also only two points away from each other. Unfortunately, the Toros were not able to benefit from the success in Switzerland. At the end the ranked 8th but they also have a chance for the 5th place with only 3 points behind.

It’s BoBo Time… https://www.softballeurope.com/2015/07/20/its-bobo-time/ Mon, 20 Jul 2015 10:56:29 +0000 http://www.softballeurope.com/?p=2252 After three ESSL tournaments (Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland) we have a new homerun leader in the ESSL. With 17 homeruns BoBo is taking the lead followed by Mongo (15) and Rhino (12). All three players are from the Bad News Bombers.

BoBo had a great tournament in Switzerland by hitting 10 homeruns. On the other side Rhino was only able to hit one out of the ball park. Because Mongo is on the DL for the last two tournaments it will be a race between BoBo and Rhino. BoBo is still in the lead with 5 homeruns but Rhino can catch up. Rhino as a right handed hitter has an advantage on the field in Austria in August (the Highlands field) and BoBo as a left handed hitter has an advantage at the ESSL Championship tournament in Linz Austria on 19th/20th of September. At the end there will be only one ESSL homerun champion.

ESSL Switzerland: 1. BNB, 2. Guzzlers, 3. Toros https://www.softballeurope.com/2015/07/13/essl-switzerland-1-bnb-2-guzzlers-3-toros/ Mon, 13 Jul 2015 17:40:48 +0000 http://www.softballeurope.com/?p=2227 The first ESSL tournament in Switzerland had a lot of surprises. The host, the Toros, beat the Los Coyotes (16:9) and Dream Team (10:6) to reach the 3rd place. This team surprised everybody by hitting line drives in the gaps and playing a solid defense.

The tournament also offered great games between the two US teams. Guzzlers challenged the Bombers in the finals and forced them to an additional championship game by winning the first game 24:14. In the second game the Bombers managed to take the lead but the Guzzlers came closer every inning. With runners on first and second and a previous inside-the-park homerun by Todd Gonsalves the Guzzlers were close to tie the game. But with a double play (5-4-3) the Bombers won the game 10:7 and their third ESSL tournament in a row.

Dream Team reached the fourth place in Switzerland and rewarded themselves with the third position in the ESSL standings with 15 points. Overall the race for the ESSL bronze medal will be very close between Dream Team, Los Coyotes and Bulldogs. However, with the third place in Switzerland the Toros also have a chance to join the race.

The Bulldogs arrived with a very talented team but due to some injuries they were not able to reach their full potential. At the end the gained the 5th place in Switzerland. It’s the same position they currently have in the ESSL standings only 3 points away from the bronze medal.

It seems like the Austrian teams are in a slump at the moment. The Los Coyotes had a strong team but were not able to activate their skills. It looks like the loss against the Guzzlers distracted them from their goal to reach the finals. The second Austrian team, PGS, lost track to be a permanent contendor in the ESSL. Maybe the loss against the Toros in Ljubljana has still its afterereffect. The Los Titanes were able to win against Dream Team (15:11) and had a close game against Bulldogs (5:6) but at the end it was not enough. Finally, the ranked on 8th place.

Mongo vs. Rhino https://www.softballeurope.com/2015/06/23/mongo-vs-rhino/ Tue, 23 Jun 2015 11:35:00 +0000 http://www.softballeurope.com/?p=2156 Who will be the homerun champion 2015? At the moment it is a race between Mongo and Rhino, both are from the Bad News Bombers team. Mongo who played 13 games so far hit 15 homeruns compared to Rhino who hit 11 homeruns (also 13 games). Three more tournaments are ahead of us. Maybe there are underdogs out there that we were not expecting at all.

Let’s see who will be the homerun champion at the end of the season.
