When was your team founded?
The Guzzlers Softball Club just celebrated their 25th anniversary of participating in International softball. The European chapter of the Guzzlers was formed in the fall of 2013. Please see http://guzzlerssoftball.com/about.html for complete history.
In which city is your team located?
The base of our team is located outside of Kaiserslautern Germany, although we have players spread throughout Europe.
Give us a short history of your team
2014 was the inaugural year for the European Guzzlers, we participated in every ESSL tournament as well as 10 other US military tournaments around Europe. Although the travel was fierce, that is what we all love to do. Travel and Play Softball.
What do you expect from this season and what are your goals?
I expect competition to grow in the ESSL from last year and for it to grow each month of this 2015 season. All the teams have talent that is maturing. Our goals are to simply put the best competitive team on the field that we can and enjoy the wonderful venues and comradery that the ESSL provides.
What do you think of the ESSL?
I think the ESSL is matured beyond its age. The website, organization, diversity of teams is amazing and well thought out. Even more so that 2014 was the first year. We thoroughly enjoy meeting and spending time with the teams and people of different countries and cultures that we would never meet if it wasn’t for the love of playing softball.
How do you see the future of the ESSL?
I see the future of the ESSL flourishing. With the framework that is in place from the inaugural year there is no reason that the ESSL will not grow into something bigger. I personally would like to see other regions of Europe participating in some fashion.
