Interview with Bad News Bombers
An interview with Drew Chesser, coach of the new ESSL team Bad News Bombers.
When was your team founded?
Bad News Bombers (BNB) was founded October 2014
In which city is your team located?
Our team is located throughout Germany with military members from the Army and Air Force, Department of Defense Civilians and Civilian Contractors that live in Germany.
Give us a short history of your team
As stated earlier the team Bad News Bombers (BNB) was founded in October 2014 and is made up of military members and civilians that live and work throughout Germany. The team was formed to promote the game of slow-pitch softball throughout Europe as well as mentor kids that play baseball to be excited about the game and enjoy playing it. Currently we sponsor the Ljubljana Bombers who are a 15u and 16u baseball team located in Ljubljana, Slovenia and travel throughout Europe playing baseball.
What do you expect from this season and what are your goals?
The Bad News Bombers (BNB) expect to be an immediate contender for the ESSL Championship Title and will strive to achieve that. Our #1 goal is to promote the game of softball and bring the American and European softball community together not only to compete against one another but also to teach, assist and help one another to a better level and become more competitive and ultimately enjoy the game for generations to come. In addition it’s imperative that we teach the game, provide equipment and any other items necessary to the Ljubljana Bombers so not only they can be competitive but they can promote the game of softball in their country and leave a lasting impression so that people will enjoy the game and want to play.
What do you think of the ESSL?
The ESSL is an awesome idea and provides an opportunity in Europe to play softball all over Europe that is a second to none experience for all players involved. I mean how many people in a lifetime can say they played softball in Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia and Austria all in one year. I am sure the number is not very many.
How do you see the future of the ESSL?
I foresee the ESSL as having a great future. As teams continue to come to the league and additional countries are added it will soon become the slow-pitch league for everyone to contend with here in Europe. It will always promote sportsmanship and camaraderie with great competition between teams and make for an experience everyone will want to be a part of for a long long time.
